Homemade Apple Pie and Crust

Description

Luann's famous homemade apple pie.

Ingredients

Filling:
4 large Tart apples
1 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1 1/4 Tbs Cornstarch (mix with 1/4 Cup Water)

Crust:
2 Cups Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
3/4 Cup Shortening
1 Beaten egg
2 tsp Vinegar
3/4 Cup Water


Directions

Filling:

Boil apples for 10 minutes, drain and cool a little. Add other filling ingredients and cook until thicken then cool.

Crust:

Mix together flour and salt then cut in shortening with a pastry cutter. In a small bowl combine egg, vinegar, and water. Add half of mixture to flour then add a little at a time. Do not use all of this liquid. Knead into a two balls and roll out on plastic wrap. One for the top and one for the bottom. Do not over knead or work with dough.

Pie:

Put pie together and cover edges with foil. cook at 425 degrees for 15 min, reduce to 400 degrees for 30 min, remove foil and cook for 10 more minutes.
